Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888, and started his career as a philosophy teacher in 1909 with admission to teaching profession at Chennai's Presidency College.

He has taught philosophy at many famous universities like Benaras, Chennai, Kolkata, Mysore and overseas universities such as Oxford in London. Due to his devotion to the teaching profession, he was appointed as Chairman of the University Scholarship Commission in 1949 for his valuable service. From 1962 onwards, Teachers began to commemorate September 5. After serving the country for a long time with his great work, he passed away on April 17, 1975.
