Mao Tse Tung Life History

Mao Tse Tung was a Chinese Marxist military and politician , who led the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to victory against the Kuomintang (KMT) within the Chinese war , leading to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949 in Beijing.

The eldest child of a comparatively prosperous peasant family, Mao was born on December 26, 1893, during a village called Shaoshan in Xiangtan County, Hunan , and thus spoke Xiang rather than Mandarin as his first language. His ancestors had migrated from Jiangxi province during the Ming , married indigenous women, and had settled there as farmers.

Mao lived with his mother’s family in a neighboring village until he was eight. He then returned to Shaoshan to begin his education When he was 10, he ran away from school. Following his expulsion from at least three other schools, his father refused to continue to pay for his education.

At the age of 14, Mao entered an arranged marriage with an eighteen year old cousin called Luo. Although he never lived with her and she died in 1910, Mao was allowed to resume his schooling. When he was 16, he against his father’s wishes left Shaoshan and enrolled himself in a nearby higher primary school. It was during this period that his political consciousness began to develop.

Mao Tse Tung studied traditional Confucian classics. His mother was devoutly Buddhist. He served briefly in the republican army. Mao then spent six months studying within the provincial library. He graduated from Hunan First Normal School. He went to Peking, and worked as a library assistant at the Peking University. At the university, Mao Tse Tung made contacts with intellectual radicals who later were high in the Chinese Communist Party.

In 1919, Mao returned to Hunan. Here, he engaged in political activity. He organised groups, and published a political review. In 1920, Mao Tse Tung married Yang K’ai-hui, the daughter of one of his teachers at the provincial normal school in Changsha and an active communist. Yang Kai-hui was later executed by the Chinese Nationalists in 1930. He later married Ho Tzu-chen, but divorced her in 1937. Then, he married Chiang Ch’ing.

Mao Tse Tung was a founding member of the Chinese Communist Party . A Chinese soviet was founded in Juichin, Kiangsi province, with Mao as the chairman. But a series of extermination campaigns by Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist government forced the CCP to abandon Juichin in 1934. This was the beginning of the Long March. Mao was able to gain control of the Chinese Communist Party, putting an end to the Russian direction. The Communist forces reached Shensi, October 1935, after a march of 10,000 km.

The Japanese invasion during the World War II, forced the CCP and the Kuomintang to form a united front. Mao Tse Tung rose in stature as a statesman . Under him, the Chinese Communist Party membership rose from 40,000 members in 1937 to 1.200,000 members in 1945. After the end of the World War II, the united front split and civil war erupted. The Chinese Communist Party came to power and Chiang’s government was forced to escape to Taiwan.

When the us rebuffed Mao Tse Tung, China developed an in depth alliance with the USSR. During the early 1950s, Mao served as the chairman of the Communist Party, chief of state, and chairman of the military commission. During the Cultural Revolution , his sayings, printed during a little red book, and buttons bearing his image were distributed.

Mao died at the age of 82, on September 9, 1976 at 10 minutes past midnight in Beijing. He had been in poor health for several years and had declined visibly for some months prior to his death. His body lay in this state at the Great Hall of the People.

A memorial service was held in Tiananmen Square on September 18, 1976. There was a three-minute silence observed during this service. His body was later placed into the Mausoleum of Mao , although he wished to be cremated and had been one among the primary high ranking officials to sign the “Proposal that each one Central Leaders be Cremated after Death” in November 1956.
