Holi Festival: Holi is a festival of Hindus and is celebrated all over the country. It is the festival of colors, fun, and frolic. Holi is the festival of joy and happiness. It comes in the month of March. In India, people of all the castes celebrate Holi with an open heart.
There are various stories related to this festival. The significance of Holi is related to the story of Prahlad, who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. His father Hiranya Kashyap tried to kill him.
Hiranya Kashyap ordered his sister Holika to burn him. She took Prahlad in her arms and sat in the burning fire. The fire burnt Holika and spared Prahlad.
It was the victory of right over the wrong. In the memory of this event, Holika is burnt on this festival. People worship the bonfire. It is symbolizes burning of all the sins and evils for the sake of good.
As per the tradition, few sweets and special food are prepared for this festival. People rub gulal on each other’s forehead by wishing them ‘Happy Holi’.
